Well the above scenarios are going to be history as during "Intel International Science and Engineering Fair" a California teen Eesha Khare showed up a super-capacitor that can charge up a device in just 20-30 seconds. She was awarded the first position at the Fair ,details are here
For smartphone users especially android (which sucks the battery like hell ) it is like a light from heaven .

Super-capacitor or formerly called electric double-layer capacitor (EDLC), are nothing but electrochemical capacitors. Super-capacitors reduces the gap between capacitors and rechargeable batteries .Having highest available capacitance values per unit volume and the greatest energy density of all capacitors.
Super-capacitors have considerably higher durability and rate of charging (and also discharging) compared to rechargeable batteries, but the downside to them is that they have a low energy density which creates the problem but Khare said that her super-capacitors have “a special nano-structure which allows for a lot [sic] greater energy per unit volume.”
The super-capacitor can last for up to 10,000 cycles which outpaces traditional batteries by a factor of 10

Once its commercial model gets in market ,the battery woes will be history. The invention not only targets the gadgets and gizmos that are powered by battery but also expands its approach to the battery powered vehicles and other heavy devices .
Her design is basically a small device that can fit into devices with batteries thus charging them in 20-30 seconds
